Texting

My thoughts on texting

Texting wars have increased the fuel of animosity of negativity towards other people. With real firsthand communication decreasing and technological contact rising, the essence of personalism is fading, giving way to more hostile society of people. The lack of personal contact is increasing misinterpretation. Some people are acting more crude like everyday. Not that I never check my phone but it’s almost as if some people have started using their phones as a defense mechanism to not talk and become more introverted. I’ve always thought it was rude to have a conversation with someone and allow myself to be distracted by my phone. I feel this way because I think it’s rude when people do it to me. Being the outspoken person that I am, most of my friends know my thoughts on the matter. On the flip side, I think texting can be very useful in everyday life. Quick questions can be answered without delay. When I’m out I am usually, not always, having too much fun to text about it. I feel if more people started looking up and away from their phones our society would thrive and grow.

Keeping up with reality tv!

Reality TV, is it really worth your time?
In a world where action and graphics are more important than actual storytelling, it’s no surprise that reality Tv is as popular as it is. In addition, with the over saturation of reality shows on almost every channel and some channels solely dedicated to reality TV, it’s no wonder it’s become almost standard for every home to have staple shows they watch each night. The question is: Is reality TV damaging to our society?

Growing up, I was a huge fan of the original reality shows: The Real World and Road Rules, a spin off of The Real World, which were both on MTV. The lure of the show was that it was so different from everything else on TV. Each show consisted of about six or seven 18-24 year olds with an even mix of guys and girls. Unfortunately, the Survivor was introduced and became an immediate hit which led to more and more reality TV shows. I actually was addicted to reality TV for a long time. Up until I was watching “The Girls Next Door” on the E! channel had I realized that I was doing nothing with my life. At that moment I promised myself I would stop watching reality TV and watch shows that were a little more beneficial to my mental state. After years of not watching reality TV, I eventually reinstated myself back into school, hence this blog! Looking back I can target exactly what it was about that certain genre that turned me away -- those people on those shows do THE SAME THINGS I DO WHEN I’M DRUNK! I don’t need to be reminded of my bad behavior and I certainly don’t need to watch other people do it. I feel if more people in America had the potential to realize their own faults then they would take my lead. I am aware that their are some people who can balance a twisted reality show with their own lives and I commend them. I fortunately replaced “the kardashians” with really great shows such as: Fringe, 24, LOST, True Blood, and a few more I can't remember.

In my opinion, yes, reality TV is harming our society. We commend bad behavior and applaud illiteracy. More and more of our youth are acting out in a disgraceful way because of what their parents are letting them watch.
